Morhan Women’s Group invites women affected by Hansen’s disease to join virtual meetings
Dear friends of NGOs and grassroots organizations of persons affected by Hansen’s disease from Africa and Asia,
We are the women’s group of Morhan – Movement for the Reintegration of Persons Affected by Hansen’s Disease in Brazil. With great joy, we are holding international meetings online with women like us from all over the world – women affected by Hansen’s disease, also known as leprosy, and women who are family members of an affected person.
We’ve already had an amazing meeting with women from the Americas. On November 27th and December 4th we will hold the sessions for women from Africa and Asia respectively. During the meetings, women have the opportunity to share their experiences, especially about issues related to the right to health. One of our goals is to collaborate with the next report of the UN Special Rapporteur on the elimination of discrimination against persons affected by leprosy and their family members, Alice Cruz, who also participates in the meetings.
Simultaneous translations will be available into Portuguese, English and French (in the case of Africa) and Portuguese and English (in the case of Asia). For other translation needs, we kindly ask for local support from you or any other organization that can help with this, if possible. Please let us know about this need.
Note: Each meeting is specially designed for a continent, but there is no problem if a woman from Africa can only participate on December 4th, or if a woman from Asia can only participate on November 27th. The important thing is that we can learn from the stories of these women. They are welcome at any of the meetings!
