Women affected by leprosy share concerns of the community of persons affected during the COVID-19 pandemic in a video, recently released by GPZL. By learning from these women affected by leprosy, the NTD community can strengthen strategies to reach zero discrimination, zero stigma, and zero disability for persons affected by leprosy and other NTDs worldwide. And by looking to the experts on the ground, including those who have experienced NTDs, NGOs and governments can better fill in the gaps in COVID-19 response.
Dr. Anil Kumar is a man on a mission: an India free of new leprosy cases by 2030 is his goal. His leadership and persistence, coupled with strong political support and partnerships at the community, state, national and global levels, is transforming both understanding of the disease and the way leprosy is treated in the country.
Courtenay Dusenbury, Secretariat Director of the Global Partnership for Zero Leprosy (GPZL), recently traveled to Bihar, India. In this article, she shares her observations of how the region is making progress despite challenging circumstances. The expertise of local partners, such as the professionals in Bihar, will be major contributors to the Global Partnership for Zero Leprosy’s work.
