Use of Risk Maps for Implementation of Chemoprophylaxis for Leprosy Contacts with Single-Dose Rifampicin
When contact tracing for leprosy, nondisclosure of index cases can result in the loss of many contacts. As an alternative, risk maps can be used to identify risk areas. The Brazilian LPEP project shaped their new approach around primary care centers’ territorial areas. Rather than tracing individuals, risk maps facilitate the identification of houses to be included in screenings and provision of SDR. Risk maps make it possible to identify risk populations without disclosing the identities of index cases. This approach increased the coverage of social contacts.
